About Zhenwei Shi

Zhenwei Shi serves as principal violist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since the 2022–23 season. Previously, he served as principal violist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, where he was appointed by Music Director Manfred Honeck.

A native of China, Zhenwei began his musical studies at an early age and went on to earn his Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory. He has appeared as soloist with orchestras throughout the United States and Asia, and has collaborated with artists including Yo-Yo Ma, Gil Shaham, and members of the Emerson String Quartet.

An avid chamber musician, Zhenwei has performed at festivals including Marlboro, Ravinia, and the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival. His playing has been described as possessing "extraordinary warmth and lyrical beauty" by The New York Times.
